| On the program, Schoenberg's Transfigured Night, Op. 4 "Verklärte Nacht" along with Schubert's String Quartet No 14 "Death and the Maiden". Under the skilful hands of conductor Airat Ichmouratov, this concert will be presented in collaboration with the Théâtre Deuxième Réalité and acclaimed stage director Alexandre Marine. Schoenberg's Transfigured Night
Composed in just three weeks, the work was inspired by Richard Dehmel's poem of the same name, along with Schoenberg's strong feelings upon meeting Mathilde von Zemlinsky, the sister of his teacher Alexander von Zemlinsky, whom he would later marry.This early masterpiece remains one of the most played and most acclaimed works by this Viennese composer. |
Airat Ichmouratov
Holding a Ph.D in orchestra conducting from University of Montreal, Airat Ichmouratov has been invited as the guest conductor of the Tatarstan's State Symphony Orchestra, l'Orchestre Métropolitain du Grand Montréal, Laval Symphony Orchestra, New Brunswick Symphony Orchestra and I Musici de Montréal. During 2007-09, Mr. Ichmouratov served as Conductor in Residence of Les Violons du Roy in Quebec City and in 2009, Airat was appointed to the position of Assistant Resident Conductor of the Orchestre Symphonique de Québec. |
Alexandre Marine
Recipient of the Distinguished Artist of Russia award, Alexandre Marine is a founding member of the Tabakov Theatre in Moscow and his company, Théâtre Deuxième Réalité. Mr. Marine began his career as an actor in Moscow. His 1997 production of Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale at Centaur Theatre was rewarded at the Soirée des Masques, while Hamlet was awarded the critics' prize (Association des critiques de théâtre du Québec) for best Montreal show in 1999. Other award-winning productions include "The Blue Rose" (Special Jury Prize at Amurskaya Osen' in Blagoveshensk),"...the itsy bitsy spider..." (Best of Baltimore, 2010), "Marie Stuart" (Best Montreal production, 2007-2008 season) and "Amadeus" (Best English-language production, 2006-2007 season). |
